New Zealand and South Africa take the Plunge

When The Women’s League of Health & Beauty decided to update its image in 1999 with a new name and logo, it provided an ideal opportunity for all International Centres to take advantage of the new branding and affiliate formally with the UK. So far New Zealand and South Africa have taken the plunge.

We asked them, "Why affiliate?"

"… to keep up-todate with new ideas and training methods."

Jill Nutsford, New Zealand.

The decision for TFL New Zealand teachers to affiliate was an easy one. In today’s fitness/exercise industry it is so important to belong to a recognised fitness leader and, living as we do, at the ‘bottom of the world’ , being part of the strong worldwide network of teachers and members seems to bring us much closer. Not only do our members benefit from the camaraderie when travelling overseas and being welcomed at TFL classes anywhere in the world, we as teachers are also pleased for the ongoing opportunities to keep up to date with new ideas and training methods. We are thrilled to be part of the new branding of the League.

"...we can make contact and share ideas at the click of a mouse."

Carol Bohlman, South Africa.

Within TFL many South African teachers have close ties with teachers in the UK, which extend beyond professional, exercise-related issues to friendships of many years standing, as well as friendships made more recently. The many years of Albert Hall involvement, visits to SA by Prunella and others, the interest shown by the executive in our training and development plans, have all served to make us feel very much part of the organisation.

We have for many years felt the need for a new image, new name and new logo, and were delighted when the changes were finally made. There seemed no logical reason not to align ourselves with "the family" further afield, and in that way also maintain the links with TFL centres elsewhere in the world. Although we have always kept in touch , by means of the newly-established affiliation process the relationship is now more official, and better established. We have enjoyed receiving and reading "Update"; the magazine will now be regularly distributed, and an awareness of events and activities taking place elsewhere provides stimulation for local discussion. The world is forever getting smaller.

We are now electronically only a few seconds away from teachers/friends in other centres, and through affiliation we have a broader base of teachers with whom we can interact.
