In A League Of Their Own
The Women’s League of Health and Beauty is seventy five years old. The story of it’s origins is fascinating; and how it has continued to thrive to the present day is the theme of this book, which celebrates the first 75 years of The League. This illustrated book contains first hand accounts of key events with interviews with current members and has delved the rich source of League journals and archives.
The League was an organisation ahead of it’s time in both the wider role it offered women, and in the establishment of routine exercise regimes. Many of the current fashions in exercise are rooted in the knowledge and experience of The League. How they have remained invisible for so long is a mystery. Their achievements deserve to be recognised. The lives of the current members are living testimony to the benefits for both health and beauty of The League’s work.
If you would like to own a copy of this remarkable book, it is available priced £12.95 plus £2.50 p&p. Orders, complete with a cheque (made payable to WLHB) should be sent to The Fitness League, 6 Station Parade, Sunningdale, Berkshire. SL5 0EP

EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES
In November 2002, Dr Neil Phillips, the Council Chairman, signed the Racial Equality Charter on behalf of The Fitness League. The event was witnessed by Council members and Novlette Rennie the Chief Executive of Sporting Equals. The Charter has since been framed and is displayed in the League office. In signing the Charter the League has made a public commitment to challenge and remove racial discrimination and to achieve racial equality in sport and recreation.
