About Us
Fitness League teachers are qualified to teach Bagot Stack, a technique which is part dance, part exercise which energises and strengthens the whole body. The unique system, which is based on movement, yoga and remedial health exercises, offers a complete approach to body fitness and mobility. The focus is on strengthening abdominal muscles to achieve ‘central control’ which provides the basis of good posture from which all movement can be performed safely and effectively.
Bagot Stack has proved its worth over many years, adapting successfully to the ever-changing fitness world. The classes take place in a sociable and enjoyable environment and provide a network of friendship throughout the UK and overseas.
The Fitness League was founded in 1930 (as the Women’s League of Health and Beauty) and has had charitable status since the 1950s. When it was founded it was a pioneering organisation concerning itself with women’s health and fitness. It provides classes and teacher training based on its founder’s exercise technique. Participants are predominantly women although there are some mixed and men’s classes as well as classes for children. The organisation is funded in the main by the participants who are members of the organisation. About 170 teachers between them run around 400 classes a week in England, Scotland and Wales.
The organisation is managed by a Council (Board of Trustees) and supporting committees for training and publications, all volunteers. There are six part-time staff contributing between them 11½ days per week. There is an Office & Finance Manager (3 days) an Administration Assistant (3 days), a Training Manager (2 days), a Marketing & Development Manager (2 days) a Project Manager (1 day) and a Junior Development Manager (½ day).
